Most large corporations have developed applications for decades in order to meet their business need. In today's world, business environment has changed significantly signaling the need for upgraded IT solutions. Business requires one or more of the following upgrades to their legacy applications: user friendly GUI based front-ends interfacing with business logic running at the back-end IBM mainframe, upgrading one business application to interface with other business application on different platform, re-architecting the existing application to cope with technology advancements, etc.

Legacy Modernization can be broadly categorized into three groups. Migration or Conversion as it is called, generally involves changing the application developed on one language platform to higher releases of the same language platform, one database to another database etc. Re-engineering, on the other hand, involves re-architecting the application into a newer platform completely such as developing J2EE based application replacing a given legacy COBOL application on IBM mainframe. There is a third category, mostly recognized by large corporate houses having legacy applications handling millions of transaction at any point in time is called Hybrid model. In Hybrid model most of business rule processing logic is retained in the legacy language, database environment to leverage the processing capabilities of the mainframes and only the front-end is replaced with GUI using new technology platform.

Migration Services

Our migration expertise is focused on mainframe technology. Having built our expertise over a period of time , we understand various IBM and non IBM COBOL language environment and have positioned ourselves well in this area.

Typical migration practice in which we have expertise is: Migrating applications built on OS/VS COBOL or VS/COBOL II language environment to newer Enterprise COBOL on mainframe. Our technology specialists have developed in-house tools to accomplish this task. Our technologist also have expertise in using IBM supplied tools such as CCCA tools.

Another migration practice in which we have expertise is :

Migrating applications built on IMS database to more recent releases of relational database such as DB2 on mainframe.

Migration process involves study and pilot phase to firm up our understanding of the requirements with our customer. Impact analysis and Code conversion will ensure the migration is done as per requirement. Testing will ensure work products are tested thoroughly before delivery.
